Apple have just confirmed that their latest version of High Sierra has eGPU support. If you have a MacBook released in 2016 or later or an iMac released on 2017 or later, you can turn it in to a graphics hungry beast, running on the latest version of High Sierra, by using an external GPU. While eGPUs are an obvious choice for gamers, they give a massive processing improvement when running DaVinci Resolve, Avid or Adobe. One great example of this is a low spec MacBook Pro, running Resolve, seeing an increase from 11fps to 53fps
You simply choose a graphics card to suit your requirement, pop it in the Breakaway Box and you’re away. Another benefit for most businesses is that since you’re not installing this into a machine, you can move it to different machines as required or take it with you when you’re offsite.
We purchased two of Sonnet’s 550 Breakaway Boxes last year to boost 2 Mac Pros and we can’t recommend them enough.
